Bending golden wires as lines, filling vibrant enamel as paint, glazing gradation layers with Tibetan Thangka mineral pigments, each piece of cloisonne artwork is uniquely crafted from the harmony of mind, heart and hands, a creation of exquisite and meticulous art that remains timeless.
In 2020, Hong Kong cloisonne artist Debby Shing founded LIVIN ARTSPACE, the city’s very first Cloisonne Thangka Atelier, dedicated to promoting and preserving the art of cloisonne and Thangka. Over the past five years, she has taught over 1,000 local and overseas students. The exhibition showcases the works of Debby Shing and over 20 of her students. Debby’s pieces draw inspiration from Tibetan iconography, bridging traditions with modern aesthetic interpretation, featuring rigorous compositions that are intricate and elegant. Meanwhile, her students explore different horizons through personal perspectives, creating a diverse spectrum of artworks that are refreshing and full of vitality.
Tradition and modernity intertwined, complementing each other. One can admire not only the transmission of craft and skills, but also the boundless possibilities of how cloisonne is being reimagined through the creative mind and delicate craftsmanship of Debby and her students.
