GIA’s May seminar will delve into the world of emeralds. This beautiful green stone has captured people’s imagination throughout history. From the Maharajas of India’s oppulent necklaces accentuated with emeralds the size of pigeon eggs, to Cortez’s 15th century discovery of Latin American emeralds inspiring many Spanish adventurers’ imaginations – emeralds have remained a permanent part of mythology and folklore. Emeralds are the birthstone of May, as well as the gemstone for the astrological sign Cancer.
GIA instructors will discuss the key properties of emeralds, including how to differentiate between a genuine stone over a synthetic one, highlight the notable emeralds in history, and provide participants with a thorough understanding of what makes these precious gemstones so inherently valuable and admired.
