Gallery tete is pleased to present the solo exhibition by ceramic artist Akihiro Nikaido at PMQ in Hong Kong.

Born in 1977 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Mr. Nikaido now lives and works in Izu, Shizuoka, surrounded by lush mountains. His work is known for embracing the passage of time and transformation, featuring pieces like “Shouki” (rust ware), which resemble iron vessels, and rough-textured, unglazed ceramics made with Izu clay. His exhibitions span not only Japan but also cities like New York, Paris, London, Beijing, and Shanghai.

This exhibition marks the first presentation at Gallery tete of his recent focus—the “Gyokukara” (Jade Shell) series. These one-of-a-kind pieces reveal unique landscapes in each work, with melted glaze evoking the surface of the earth.

The exhibition includes a wide range of forms, from flower vases, jars, sake jars, and cups to tea utensils and large-scale works intended for display—all specially prepared for this show.

Nikaido will be present on the opening day. We hope this rare visit to Hong Kong fosters meaningful exchanges between local visitors and fellow artist.
