The cover design of this book combined 2 vintage elements with 3 layers, a pattern iron gate and floor brick. For the 1st layer, the floor brick patterns followed their unique color and transform as a small square on the cover. For the 2nd layer, the designer used an old street photo with many graffiti and paintings to showcase the traces of time. The pattern iron gate appeared in the last layer by using a grey art paper with the laser cut design to make it transparent. The subtitle “The Record of Hong Kong Old Shops” is using a special font types from the period of movable type printing to match with the vintage beauty of this book.
