Beneath our skin, we are all bones; upon our skin, we reconstruct universes.
HUMAN TRANSFORMATION marks the debut solo exhibition of Hong Kong body art artist Hannah Pong. Rejecting prescriptive narratives, the exhibition functions as an experimental intervention in human body transformation, projecting raw visual stimuli designed to challenge inherent assumptions. Hannah reimagines the human canvas as an entirely open-ended, zero-preset intellectual clue — driving a contemporary discourse on the surreal coexistence of humanity, nature, urban landscapes, and interspecies evolution.
Hannah believes that the ephemeral nature of body art is its most precious virtue; the temporary canvas, destined to be washed away, chronicles the unique experience of the present moment. This exhibition aims to share the experimental perspectives behind her diverse works, translating the transient living canvas into a series of entirely handpainted, one-of-a-kind works of art. These tactical assets encompass life-sized body art photography prints, airbrush mandala leather mirrors, body art photography postcards and interactive modular ceramic bodies.
This is an open-ended universe of transformation constructed by Hannah Pong. Audiences—each carrying their own distinct life trajectories—are invited to actively interact in this space, exploring the transformed bodies through different dimensions.
About the Artist
Hannah Pong is a Hong Kong body art artist whose practice and trajectory reflect her name, Hok-Man (學文) — approaching art and culture as a lifelong process of learning and refinement. Hannah utilizes human body transformation as a rigorous narrative language, continuously expanding the boundaries where the human form, space and culture intersect.
Hannah became an apprentice to the Hong Kong special effects makeup artist Gary Chan in 2016, the intensive training in cinematic and theme park productions established her rigorous foundations in hyper-realistic anatomy. Graduated from the Department of Arts and Design of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, she conducted her first exploration of human transformation through her collection of mini 3D ceramic human sculptures. Her public art marketing experience at JIN ARTS in Beijing enabled her to connect people and society through art expression. Upon returning to Hong Kong in 2025, Hannah embarked on a new stage of art creation, through experimenting human transformation with various living canvases, she unlocked unprecedented possibilities of body art in the fields of arts and businesses.
The essence of body art is a transient, site-specific daily ritual. As pigment and prosthetics interface with the human skin, they manifest as a wearable “second skin”, transforming alongside the living canvas’s immediate emotion and state of being, just like our everyday outfits and makeup. Hannah’s artistic transformation highlights the beauty and hides the imperfections of the human canvas, her creation is composed of three parts: the essence of the human canvas, artistic technique and environmental co-creation. In The Sailing Project, the model’s adventurous spirit guided the work as hand-cut stencils and ocean blues spontaneously adapted to her skin amidst the motion of the waves.
In every site-specific experiment, spanning both fine art and commercial applications of body art, Hannah chases the creation of imagery that surprises even herself — disrupting rigid frameworks and pushing boundaries of body art through her original, healing and imaginative artwork in modern life.
