“That single thread pulls further and further away, likely never to weave into a new web again. Like the glow of a long-dead star, past brilliance flickers only in the mind’s clearest moments.”

In her work, the moon, points of light and clusters of stars evoke distant memories, reconnecting us with those that have drifted apart.

For this year’s HKOP award recipient, Clara Wan Shin-yee, printmaking is much like the art therapy she practices: it opens a space for contemplation. Through the delicate textures and subtle nuances of light and shadow in intaglio, she slowly explores the sense of loss that follows separation.

This exhibition, “The After”, presents works created during her residency and invites us to trace the connection between imprints and inner emotions, while reflecting  on human connection and disconnection.

Artist Bio

Wan Shin-yee, Clara (@clarawanart) graduated from the Department of Anthropology at the CUHK in 2019 and later graduated from the University of Derby with a MA in Art Therapy in 2025. She is now a HCPC registered art therapist.

Weaving together insights from art, psychology, and anthropology, her work functions as more than mere artistic expression but also a medium for excavating the inner world and the healing process, through which she explores complex themes of human connection, diaspora, and grief.
