Zine, a hip synonym for autonomous and independent publishing. A creator of zine, dubbed zinester, enjoys absolute freedom in the entire creative process – from concept, to image, to content and production. Without any constraints, creators are able to return to their creative origin and produce a truly honest work.

From 23 December, 2016 to 9 January, 2017, PMQ will organise Here is Zine • Here is Hong Kong exhibition. 60 local creative minds – from creative domains such as design, photography, literature, architecture, art, multimedia and fashion – are invited to create their unique version of zine to express their own ideas, preferences and stories. Through the unique works by the zinesters, plus sharing sessions and workshops to be held alongside the exhibition, the public could get a glimpse of the city which, in a way, inspires the creation of these zines. With a diversity in content, design and formats, the exhibition is a showcase for real individuality. It displays zines ranging from only existing hand-made copies, to limited edition copies that are sophisticatedly printed, as well as works that breakthrough the form of book.

Following the catchphrase, “To make your unique copy”, Here is Zine was founded by Tokyo-based creative group Enlightenment since 2010. Outstanding people from various creative domains were invited to display their zines. This year, following Tokyo’s 12th instalment, the spirit of Here is Zine extends to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, where local curated exhibitions will open up to a unique and superb cultural exchange. The exhibition also showcases selected works from Here is Zine Tokyo and Here is Zine Shenzhen, allowing the audience to appreciate the creative outlooks of the three cities.
