Since 1978, World Sake Day has been a celebration of all things Nihonshu. The Japan Sake Brewers Association chose October 1st to mark the point where most of the year’s rice has been harvested and breweries are restarting production for the year.

One of the largest number of sake consumers per capita and the greatest concentration of sake industry professionals, Hong Kong is the perfect place to capture the attention of seasoned and amateur sake lovers alike.Last year, in spite of COVID-19 regulations, Sake Central waved the World Sake Day Flag on October 1st, 2022. In coordination with 24 cities from around the world a global kanpai was broadcast as a live feed at the innovative KIN Food Halls in collaboration with Sake Central who hosted a COVID restriction-compliant event catering to over 300 sake lovers who tasted hundreds of sake. The global sake market has suffered greatly since COVID-19 and Hong Kong is among the worst hit. However, there is now a renewed optimism and excitement in the air which makes it time to raise a glass and celebrate the future!

This year, the 45 year old tradition shines brighter than ever with the 2nd annual World Sake Day Celebration! Brought to you by Sake Central, Singular Concepts and PMQ, WSD 2023 will take place at PMQ’s historic courtyard; an iconic location where some of Hong Kong’s greatest food and beverage cultural events have taken place for many years.

Together with sponsors All Nippon Airways and AEON Credit Services, World Sake Day 2023 will feature a festival-style event over three days from September 30th to October 2nd, 12:00 – 21:00 each day.Over 5 sake breweries from all over Japan will to showcase their sake while three sake associations will visit from Japan to represent an even larger selection of sake makers who have a shared vision. This includes the Awasake Association, specializing in sparkling sake, and the Craft Sake Association who represents some of Japan’s most innovative sake. Some of these sake makers will be leaving Japan for the first time EVER to share their cult sake produce with the World Sake Day audience.
