About The Workshop :
This workshop introduces the art of kiln-fired enameling on copper, where powdered glass is fused to metal under intense heat. Through step-by-step guidance, participants will create their own enamel copper plate while learning the fundamentals of layering, color placement, and the firing process.
Using pre-prepared copper forms, you’ll experiment with both transparent and opaque enamels, observing how they shift and transform in the kiln. Attention to timing and temperature will reveal how subtle adjustments influence surface texture, depth, and color nuance.
Because fire is an unpredictable collaborator, every piece emerges with its own distinct character — making each finished work truly one of a kind.
Workshop Highlights :
- Preparation and understanding of copper as an enameling base
- Proper firing procedures using a kiln
- Working with transparent and opaque (solid) enamel colors
Techniques Covered:
- Sifting (dry application) for even enamel coverage
- Wet packing for controlled color placement and detail
- Glass overlay techniques to create depth and surface variation
- Stencil methods and for Masking techniques for controlled enamel application
- Creating single-color and multi-color compositions
- Enameling on single-sided and double-sided surfaces
Class Size:
Maximum of six participants per class
Note:
- All copper bases are pre-cut and prepared by the instructor, allowing you to focus fully on the enameling process.
