“There were twelve shops there, and at least eight of them were printing shops.” Master Yam of Kwong Wah Printing Company recalls the old Wing Lee Street. But back then, the presence of printing shops was not limited to this area—the clatter of printing presses once filled the streets and alleys of Central.
Fast forward to today, with urban redevelopment reshaping the cityscape, how many traces of the past still remain in the Central district? Join us on a cultural city tour as we travel back to the 1840s and explore Central through the story of the printing industry. From the birth of the Chinese lead type to the few remaining traces of printing shops, we will walk the routes local pressmen once took and rediscover the streets that were once alive with the rhythm of printing presses. Don’t miss this chance to uncover the hidden history of the city!
