What is “messing up”? Is it adversity? A setback? Perhaps even a failure? People often go out of their way to avoid these negative labels of things going south. Yet failing is a quintessential and unavoidable stage of life.
Can “messing up” be an act of courage? Of experimentation? Perhaps even the key to success?
To dare to try is to accept the possibility of messing up. It means stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing trial and error, and discovering new possibilities through experience. When we reframe “messing up” as part of growth, we begin to see that every stumble is also a step forward. This year’s theme is how do we get back on the horse after “messing up”, rebound and set sail again. With each rebound, we are training and strengthening our tenacity, allowing us to bounce further and higher.
The theme for this year’s PMQ Seed is “Dare to Try”. Students are invited to experiment boldly in a safe and secure environment, experience the thrill of “messing up” and discover the growth and fun in failures. AI will be used as an auxiliary tool to implement creative ideas, helping participants to turn concepts into specifics.
PMQ Seed is a project initiated by PMQ and supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as Lead Sponsor. This year, we continue to partner with local creative design teams, presenting a series of exciting creative events such as “Creative Training Class”, “Train the Trainer Workshop”, and “Seed Online”. Children aged 8-14, adolescents, educators, and parents are welcome to join us.
Messing up isn’t something to fear — it’s how we learn to dare.
About PMQ Seed
Creativity is a seed—it holds the power to transform and move the world.
In our ever-growing society, with technology changing our lives by the day, creative and human-centered thinking will become increasingly important. We believe that planting the creative seed in the minds of children will contribute significantly towards their cultivation of character and creative thought, as well as growth and development in future society.
Since 2018, PMQ Seed has been collaborating with various local creative and educational organisations to design a series of cross-disciplinary and immersive educational activities, workshops, and exhibitions, with the aim of cultivating design thinking among school children. It is our goal to enrich children’s growth with creative design skills. Furthermore, through the application of human-centered thinking, we hope to learn from our new generation’s perspectives as we reflect on the present and unlock the future.
