They were here before us.

Before the forests were cleared. Before the highways were built. Before the cities swallowed everything whole.

I have spent years as a picture book creator and animal welfare volunteer in Hong Kong—visiting schools, sharing stories of rescued animals, and asking children a question they always answer with their whole hearts: What can we do?

This exhibition brings together thirty picture books from around the world, exploring five dimensions of the human-animal relationship: our place in the larger web of life; the world as animals experience it; the realities of adoption and breeding industries; the ethics of what we eat; and finally, the love and grief that cross every species boundary.

Picture books are not just for children. They are one of the most honest art forms we have—capable of breaking through the numbness of adult life and returning us to a place where we can still feel, still question, still change.

These thirty books are an invitation. To see differently. To feel fully. And perhaps, to act.
