Wandering between type cases, typesetting with movable types, and operating various printing presses —letterpress printing is a significant technique of Hong Kong from the 1970s and 1980s. Although it has long been replaced by more convenient printing technologies, this intangible cultural heritage still holds irreplaceable value. At PMQ, Open Press preserves not only the hardware donated by local print shops, such as movable types and the Heidelberg Windmill Platen Press, but also the techniques of the pressmen and the history of print art in the Central District.
Living words, cherishing words. If you want to learn more about the art of letterpress printing, explore the history of print art heritage in Hong Kong, and try using the Adana Letterpress Printing Machine to print exquisite letterpress cards, join our guided tour and printing experience now!
