Focusing on the scenes of yesteryear’s Central and Sheung Wan area, the “OLD TOWN WALKABOUT” exhibition relives the fondest memories of old times to visitors of PMQ. Immerse yourself into scenes of yesteryear including tri-coloured poles of traditional barber stalls and lion dance parade!
This exhibition comprises of two different themes to revoke the fondest memories of old times Hong Kong, including lion dance parade and traditional barber stalls.
Contrary to modern hair salons, traditional barber stalls put utmost focus on efficiency and practicality. However, these traditional barber stalls are progressively replaced by modern hair salon and are no longer a familiar sight in Central as they once used to be. This exhibition brings the traditional barber stall back to life and allows visitors to step back into the decade.
The other exhibition booth takes the theme of lion dance parade. Before fireworks and festive lighting rule the sky, lion dance as a traditional performance played a crucial role in the lives of old Hong Kong, where dancing lions would be accompanied by firecrackers to celebrate festive occasions. In Asian culture, lion dance symbolises good luck and fortune, therefore it can be seen in various festive celebrations including Chinese New Year and other traditional holidays.
While immersing in the vivid images of the old town, visitors can create your own images with your friends using the props provided by our booths. You can also share your photos on social media platforms to spread the joy using free Wi-Fi at the verandah area.
