We are pleased to host a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Atsushi Shimomura. This marks his first exhibition in Hong Kong.
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1985, Shimomura learned pottery in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, a renowned area for ceramics in Kyushu. He has since relocated his studio to Sagamihara City in Kanagawa Prefecture, where he continues to create. His works primarily feature white clay and black glaze, showcasing a softness combined with a certain strength, radiating a quiet presence.
Shimomura aims to blur the boundaries between “objects and people, space,” allowing everything to connect gently. The gradients of white and elegant forms leave a lasting impression. When dishes are served and arranged on the table, these ceramics resonate with each other, creating a harmonious atmosphere in the space. It is for this reason that we have named the exhibition “Life on the Table.”
The beauty of setting a table, the choice of wares reflecting the seasons and one’s mood, and the enjoyment of food—all contribute to the culture that underpins Shimomura’s works, which thrive in everyday life.
We invite you to engage with the artworks freely and to feel the sensations of the heart and body.
