“The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong hold the 10th edition of Festive Korea under the theme of “”Better Together”" from October to November 2020. Since its launch in 2011, Festive Korea has been the largest annual Korean cultural festival in Hong Kong, featuring performances, exhibitions, Korean food, Korean films, and many other special Korean cultural and arts events.
One of the highlighted events, “Korean Young Artists series: Our Homecoming” will be presented from 18th November 2020 to 2nd January 2021 at the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong.
Curated by PARK Kihyun, the founder/director of the art space ‘instant roof’(www.vitrine.kr), the exhibition is about the reflection on the impact of the pandemic on our city in 2020 and on the post-pandemic. The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part shows paintings, installation and photography works of CHUNG Soyoung, OH Yeonjin and CHO Minah, while JANG Yunmi and PARK Syeyoung present their recent works in the second screening section.
The title of the exhibition ‘Our Homecoming’ is from ‘Year of Famine in the City’, a novel by PARK Wansuh, one of the most renowned writers of the 20th century. In the novel, she portrays the end of one era, and the glimmer of hope afterward from the view of the next generation, not as a dramatic process but as their daily lives. The exhibition aims to convey the power of art to confront the imperfections of the world through the works of young artists who have witnessed the anxiety of the society in pandemics with a keen sense of their own.
