Award-winning Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne continue their incredible run of form with another brilliantly observed slice of working-class life. Late on a Friday afternoon, Sandra (Marion Cotillard) learns that she will lose her job at the local factory as part of a corporate downsizing initiative. Her 16 co-workers were forced to vote as to whether they get their sizeable year-end bonus, or Sandra keeps her job. The decision has gone to appeal, and Sandra has until Monday morning to convince her colleagues to let her stay on. This incredible simple premise, which sees Sandra traverse the town, going from house to house, pleading for her job. Cotillard’s incredible performance – which has earned her an Oscar nomination – raises the film up to must-see status.
