This is Florence Wong’s first solo exhibition, as well as her first time showcasing her work in Hong Kong, where she spent her childhood. Having left this place for more than a decade, she wants to use her new series of illustrations to recreate her memories of this fast-developing city. In Hong Kong, traditional snacks are becoming less popular nowadays because of the rise of Western and Japanese desserts, and many local animals are facing endangerment due to environmental issues. Using images of both elements, Florence wants to bring back the citizens’ love for the traditional tastes, and raise awareness for wildlife conservation.

Other works exhibited include previous projects “Fruit PUNches” and “Sugar and Species, and Everything Nice”, which explore plays on words, in a playful and whimsical approach.

About Florence Wong

A freelance illustrator currently based in Tokyo, Japan. Graduated from Central St. Martins, London in 2012 studying illustration, Florence is an animal lover and a vegetarian whose majority of work involves animals. She often juxtaposes animals with food, plants and organs etc., creating a world of fantasy, which is often cute but with a humorous and surreal twist.

She has been commissioned by the UK-based retail website Boticca to draw series of festive illustrations, and recently by Japanese web design company LIG and Digital Hollywood University to create a mural for their new school. At present, she is looking to continue expanding the spectrum of her work by exploring different mediums and themes.
