Casting has long been a staple in the art of fabrication, in silversmithing we have a unique technique; that is, cuttlefish casting.
Cuttlefish casting is an ancient silversmithing technique, utilising the “bone” of squid-like mollusk as mould to create multiples. What makes this casting methodology unique though, is that the creations are never perfect replicas, but recreated with the organic texture of the cuttlebone.
You’ll be carving a negative of the wearable you wish to create into the cuttlebone, and pour molten silver into the mould to create your piece of jewellery.
How do the pieces get so richly textured you ask? Join our workshop and find out! An authentic metal-smithing experience might just prove to the highlight your your week.
