Starting October 10, Gallery tete is delighted to present a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Akihiro Nikaido, marking his return to Hong Kong after one year.
Centered once again around the “Gyokkaku” series—where each one-of-a-kind piece reveals a distinct landscape—the exhibition also showcases a wide range of meticulously crafted works, including his signature Yakishime and Sabi-ki.
A special highlight this time is the Hong Kong debut of his “Donabe (Sabi-ki · Yakishime-Red)” clay pots.
In Japan, Nikaido’s donabe are widely loved by chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike. Subverting conventional perceptions of earthenware pots, they are fired to a crisp, taut density that evokes the solid look and texture of cast iron. More than a practical cooking vessel, each piece possesses a pure, captivating beauty that naturally makes you want to bring it straight to the dining table.
The artist will be present at Gallery tete on the opening day.Carrying forward the enthusiastic response from last year’s exhibition, we hope that through these works, meaningful new dialogues and connections will be sparked between the artist and our visitors.
