This September, PMQ will present its first ever technology-integrated Smart Fashion Runway & Exhibition, themed “Material Translation”, supported by The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), funded by Create Hong Kong*. It aims to offer a new and innovative way to explore how fashion and technology intersects. 11 emerging Hong Kong fashion designers have been selected to design ready-to-wear collections using the latest smart textiles and technology supported by HKRITA; realizing visionary concepts to present their own brand personality.

Smart Textile has a myriad of uses. For example, with Self-Cleaning Treatment, the textile will automatically break down colour stains under visible light, save time and resources in our busy daily life; Surface Cooling fabrics and Plant Structured Woven have excellent moisture management property, aiding urban people from hot temperature and sweaty days; Bio-degradable Fibres and Food Waste Fibres which is converted from food waste into polylactic acid fibres, turn sustainable fashion from a slogan into practice. Other types of Smart Textile Technology such as Anti-Pilling Treatment, prevents pills formation on wool; 4-in-1 Technology combines water, oil and soil repellent capabilities with wrinkle-free treatment in one simple step; the Inno-Green process collects colour sorted remnants and turns it into new yarn for weaving.
