Paper craft holds particular cultural significance in Hong Kong, as many celebrations and ceremonies involve paper lanterns and the burning of paper offerings. We collaborated with Hong Kong papercraft master Au Yeung Ping Chi (Po Wah Paper Craft) to incorporate traditional craft techniques in modern lighting design. The paper used was made from waste paper through moulding. By mixing paper pulp with traditional rice glue, the paper weighs heavier and possesses a sculptural quality. We hope to create a unique space that not only highlights the beauty of the heritage craft but also demonstrates the possibility of paper, a material everyone’s familiar with, from a new yet relevant design perspective.
