Photos-collages by Antoine Rameau

  • Born in 1974, Antoine Rameau is a French artist raised between the green vineyards of Burgundy and the legendary blue seas of Brittany.
  • Having lived in Paris, Toulouse, New York and Glasgow, Rameau travelled the world as a backpacker, exploring cultures, drawing, taking photos and nurturing his passion for storytelling, human nature and mythology.
He first discovered Hong Kong in 1997, before heading to the legendary Silk Road. Since then, he has been moving back and forth between Paris and his adoptive city.
  • Rameau started experimenting with collage early on. He explored different techniques, from Surrealist juxtaposition to Cubist construction, and slowly developed his unique style. Today, his art draws from a singular combination of contemporary photography, comics and street art.
  • Inspired by the Recycled Art movement, Rameau collects found images and turns them into oniric new worlds. Each collage tells an elaborate story filled with multiple symbols which viewers can interpret based on their own experiences.
  • A lush representation of nature plays a key role in his works, where trees, flowers, rocks and wild (often weird) animals take central stage. In sharp contrast with these idealized nature, the artefacts of technology and standardization embody an invasive and sometimes threatening modernity.

Rameau’s work was shown in Asia by:

  • ARTEMISS GALLERY (Singapore) at the Hong Kong Asia Contemporary Art Show, in May 2013
  • CANVAS GALLERY (sponsored by SALT, Sai Ying Pun): 1st solo show in Hong Kong, in December 2013
  • B FELIX: 2nd solo show in Hong Kong, last May, as Associated Project of LE FRENCH MAY art festival
