【Don’t let treasured family recipes disappear with time】

Over the last hundred years, Hong Kong has transformed from a little port to a metropolitan. Tanka people (or Boat people), who traditionally live on junks and are considered the aboriginal ethnic group in Hong Kong, are having a difficult time to retain their culture as the local fishing industry is diminishing faster than ever. However, Tanka culture played a very important role in the early history of Hong Kong, which is a part that our younger generation should learn about.
In our next Family Recipes Workshop, Taste Library is honored to invite Ms. Cheung Kam Ho, who was born in a traditional Tanka family in the 60’s, to share how tough it was to live as a female in the world of Tanka culture in the past.
Besides being an inspiration for lots of Tanka women, Ms. Cheung is also a master of Tanka Cuisine. She will demonstrate three authentic dishes, Shrimp Paste Fried Rice, Fish Maw in Ginger and Green Onion, and Tanka Assorted Fish Pot, for all participants. Join our workshop and hear more stories from Ms. Cheung!
