At 70’s, NTEH was intended to be the policy to extend the culture of traditional villages in order to replace the rights to develop lands in the New Territories.

The regulation of NTEH only controls on the size of house and its basic utilities system. There is no further control or assistance on its planning, environmental control, and the potential. It has now become a tradable entity in the property market only. Being one of the important and unique vernacular architecture in Hong Kong, the unique properties of village houses has been lost.

The exhibition aims to revisit the village house development, we initiate the young architects, explore and envision a set of guidelines for modern local villages. New guidelines to the current development are set, giving a modification to the current typology and to re-generate the linkages of this typology in different scales and aspects including political, planning, public space in village scale, program re-arrangement, building design, sustainability and detail spatial design.
